A clever trick for the president's 'stupid' wife
The president’s wife is at it again, despite her claims of being too simple-minded to understand all that financial stuff. Although no hard evidence has surfaced to support the Sogo scandal, there’s no rest for ROC First Lady 吳淑珍 Wu Shu-chen, who has been caught with her hands in the investment cookie jar again.
Many of you will remember that Wu got in hot water in February 2004 for suddenly jumping into the stock market four months before, dumping NT$30 million into the market making ‘hefty’ profit. They never bothered to report the six occasions that they made more than NT$10 million in profit. Hubby Chen tried to deal with the campaign issue by promising that they would “stop stock market transactions and stop playing the stock market." The President’s Office publicly stated that first family had put their assets in a blind trust. Well, maybe their definition of ‘blind’ is different from everyone else's definition.
Legislators from both sides of the aisle blasted Wu yesterday after it was disclosed that she had directly purchased shares totaling NT$40 million in a real estate investment trust of the Hua Nan Financial Holding Company. The shares are a stock-like security, but they’re not actually stocks. The purchase wasn’t illegal because the trust wasn’t blind, which means that the Chens lied to the people of Taiwan, but managed to comply with the law passed in February of this year that tries to keep those in power from abusing their positions for financial benefit.
The Chens’ lack of self-restraint may ensure the future of their family, but such advances come at the price of the DPP’s credibility. 國父孫中山 Sun Yat-sen and 蔣中正Jiang Zhong-Zhen, or Chiang Kai-shek tried to ‘re-program’ the Chinese into putting the interests of society above petty family interests. The Chens’ selfishness simply seves to illustrate the points of those they claim to be better than.

You can't criticize Chen Shui-bian's wife. She's in a wheel-chair because of the evil KMT and their crazy Chinese brutality! That means she's earn the right to skim money, conduct insider deals, and use whatever spoil system she can to avenge her Taiwanese identity from those evil Han. Yeah for fleecing the public! That'll show China who loves Taiwan more.
